Comedonal acne is characterized by the prominence of both the whiteheads and blackheads. They are mostly found on the forehead and the chin, although they can appear on certain parts of the face and body too.

Comedones occur when skin follicles are clogged with dead skin cells, dirt, and bacteria. Blackheads are termed open comedones, wherein the grime and dirt are exposed. Try to look for a peel that works perfectly on your type of skin.

Herbal extracts from yellow dock, sarsaparilla, cleavers, and burdock can be used to treat comedones.

Another popular way of treating acnes is through the use of green tea. With green tea’s natural antioxidants, the toxins inside the body are flushed out easily. It can detoxify the rest of your system for a healthier body.

But more than the things you can use against acne comedoniano, you should also start living a healthy lifestyle. Stop drinking coffees, sodas, and alcoholic beverages. These drinks contain way too much sugar or alcohol that could be harmful to the body. It is better to drink natural fruit juices and healthy teas. Oily, salty, and sugary foods should also be taken out of your diet.

Recommended topical treatments for acne comedoniano are black mud and green clay. You can easily buy these from stores. They are used pretty much like soap too. If you can’t find them at a health shop near you, you can use oatmeal instead.

As a general rule, you should watch what you eat. This is one way to prevent comedonal acne. But more than that, you should consult with a dermatologist for help. You might want to know the root cause of your acne, as it could also be due to hormonal imbalance. Let the dermatologist help you clear out the impurities of your face for a prettier new you.

It would send you a signal to slow down through raising its temperature above normal. Refrain from doing tedious and heavy labor while your body is recovering, instead, have plenty of sleep since our body experiences muscle stress whenever we lack sleep.

Having a short five-minute cool bath would help lower your body temperature down. If a water bath is not possible, have a cool sponge bath instead.

A Natural Alternative to Drugs For Pain Relief is Herbal Turmeric

August 30, 2008

Turmeric is widely used as a spice in Indian and other South Asian cooking. It has a peppery, warm and bitter flavor and a mild fragrance slightly reminiscent of orange and ginger, and while it is best known as one of the ingredients used to make curry, it also gives ballpark mustard its bright yellow color. Turmeric comes from the root of the Curcuma longa plant and has a tough brown skin and a deep orange flesh. It is native to Indonesia and southern India, several parts of Asia, and Africa where it has been harvested for more than 5,000 years.

Turmeric has long been used as a powerful anti-inflammatory in both the Chinese and Indian systems of medicine. It is only in recent years that Western scientists have increasingly recognized the medicinal properties of turmeric. Growing evidence suggests that turmeric may afford protection against neurodegenerative diseases. Prostate cancer—the second leading cause of cancer death in American men with 500,000 new cases appearing each year—is a rare occurrence among men in India, whose low risk is attributed to a diet rich in brassica family vegetables and the curry spice, turmeric. It can also help with liver conditions by minimizing liver damages caused by taking excess alcohol regularly or using pain-killer.

Curcumin is thought to be the primary pharmacological agent in turmeric. Curcumin may be able to prevent the oxidation of cholesterol in the body. It has been shown to prevent colon cancer in rodent studies. It inhibits proliferation, induces apoptosis, and inhibits angiogenesis of prostate cancer cells in vivo. As an antioxidant, curcumin is able to neutralize free radicals, chemicals that can travel through the body and cause great amounts of damage to healthy cells and cell membranes.

In addition, curcumin was found to suppress cancer cell proliferation and to induce cell cycle arrest and apoptosis (cell suicide) in the lung cancer cells. Its cholesterol-lowering effects are the result of the curry spice’s active constituent, which research reveals is a messaging molecule that communicates with genes in liver cells, directing them to increase the production of mRNA (messenger proteins) that direct the creation of receptors for LDL (bad) cholesterol. A recent study involving mice has shown that it can slow the spread of breast cancer into lungs and other body parts.

National Institutes of Health has four clinical trials underway to study curcumin treatment for pancreatic cancer, multiple myeloma, Alzheimer’s, and colorectal cancer. In research published in the Indian Journal of Physiology and Pharmacology, when 10 healthy volunteers consumed 500 mg of curcumin per day for 7 days, not only did their blood levels of oxidized cholesterol drop by 33%, but their total cholesterol dropped by 11.

In Ayurvedic medicine, turmeric is thought to have many medicinal properties and many in India use it as a readily available antiseptic for cuts, burns and bruises. Plus, an important part of the good news reported is the fact that although curcumin has been found to be safe at very large doses, this component of turmeric was effective at a concentration as low as 100 milligrams.

Finally, Turmeric is promoted mainly as an anti-inflammatory herbal remedy that is said to produce far fewer side effects than commonly used pain relievers. It is not intended to substitute for the medical expertise and advice of your primary health care provider. If you are taking prescription drugs, speak with your health care provider or pharmacist before using herbs or dietary supplements. If you are feeling painful inflammation and want to try a natural route, give turmeric a try.

Shoulder Injuries – Treating Rotator Cuff Pain

August 30, 2008

When you have a rotator cuff injury it can seem like you can’t do anything anymore. The simplest tasks can cause intense pain, and you may not even be able to lift that arm at all.

It’s true that whenever we’re going through some sort of ordeal or serious injury that it seems we’ll never make it to the other side, and recovering from shoulder injuries is no exception. It doesn’t look like it’s ever going to get better and we start entertaining thoughts of how to live with it long term.

Shoulders are one of the most amazing parts of the body considering the wide range of motion they were designed for, and this complexity, especially of the rotator cuff is why recovering from an injury in this area can be more difficult. Just consider the anatomical engineering required to provide complete freedom of movement through a whole 360 degree circle.

The many muscles and tendons making up the rotator cuff all work in concert to hold your arm to your shoulder by keeping the ball on top of the upper arm firmly pressed into the socket in your shoulder blade. There is no other joint that allows for movements as complicated as those performed by the shoulder when it works properly.

It should come as no surprise that rotator cuff injuries are fairly common considering the extreme flexibility offered by this joint. The shoulder can be over-stressed by overhead arm movements, especially when they are repeated a lot, the action of improper lifting, and falling where the shoulder takes a direct impact. Getting older increases risk as flexibility is lost, and poor posture doesn’t help either.

Working in certain trades like construction and automotive garages increases chances of injury as does participation in various athletic activities where there is throwing or reaching involved. Even though younger people have more elasticity in their joints, they also tend to do more where there is increased chance of over-extending themselves.

When the rotator cuff is working right we tend to take for granted the wide range of motion it allows us, but that is exactly why the loss of that capability is felt so intensely. Mostly we feel the pain associated when trying to do much of anything. Reaching up or holding something is likely impossible, and it hurts to do even simple things like putting on a coat.

Favoring the injured arm and shoulder is common and avoiding things like sleeping on the affected side, or certain types of movement are symptomatic. Pain that never lets up may be indicative of a more serious injury such as a torn rotator cuff, and should be properly evaluated.

The correct treatment depends on the type and extent of the injury and obviously no one wants a mild inflammation to become a more serious rotator cuff tear. Types of injury range from muscle inflammation with no material damage, all the way to a partial or complete muscle tear that may require some sort of surgery. Often it’s the case that self-care methods and exercise therapy bring about healing and recovery.

First thing is to allow the injury to heal by resting it, using cold and heat treatments, and anti-inflammatory medications along with something for pain. Once that happens start gently exercising it to relieve stiffness, then start a proper exercise regimen to recondition and strengthen the muscles once they’ve healed.

Its important to know when medical treatment by a physician is appropriate, but because most non-acute rotator cuff injuries can be treated with self-care and proper exercise therapy, finding a proven regimen to follow is invaluable. Note also that improper exercises can prolong the healing process or even make the injury worse.

Best Way To Clean Your Colon - Exclusive Tips & Techniques

August 30, 2008

We all brush our teeth, don’t we? May be we gargle with brine to soothe our throats too. But how many of us bother to keep our colons clean? How many even know what the colon is, what it does and why it’s important for the upkeep of body hygiene. Let’s find out …

We don’t know much about the colon because it’s a silent organ that’s completely out of sight. The body has four parts that help eliminate toxins and waste: the skin (by evaporation of sweat), the lungs (by exhalation), the kidneys (by urinary discharge) and the colon (by solid waste discharge via bowel movement). The colon’s a muscle wrapped around the last five feet — yes, five feet! – of the large intestine that constricts regularly to help solid waste move along the last intestinal portion for its ultimate discharge.

As you can well imagine, the sheer importance of the colon makes its regular cleansing important for ensuring good health. A malfunctioning colon can lead to serious ailments: colitis, ileitis or diverticulitis or even, in extreme cases,colon-rectal cancer. If you don’t want any of these to happen to you, you’d do well to cleanse your colon regularly.

Well, how do you do so? Luckily it isn’t too hard a task. It’s the awareness about it that matters.

Basically there are three ways by which colon cleansing can be performed. We’ll describe these options below; you take your pick. The first and easiest option is to rely on naturopathy. In other words, use natural products only, no medication. Pure drinking water is an excellent colon cleansing material. Remember, water is one thing whose excess intake does you good, not harm! Along with water, ensure a regular intake of vegetables, fruits and herbs. These give your tummy what’s known as ‘roughage’ – it keeps the colon happy by ensuring easy bowel movement.

Your second option is to go in for a cotton cleanse product available over the counter with your favorite chemist. These cleansers are medically approved and normally cause your bodily system no harm. However these cleansers contain chemicals that could possibly be unkind for your constitution. If you don’t want to take chances, keep to naturopathy.

If you’re in a real hurry to get your colon cleaned up, you can use the quickest method, namely, intervention by a trained and qualified paramedic who will manually clean the colon with use a colonic, though you should be aware this method is also quite harsh. It involves manual the use of water and flush away any of the debris that may be stuck in the colon. Not a terribly endearing prospect, what, endearing though it might be? Besides, there are two risks here. You have to be sure that the person administering the colonic is thoroughly competent for the task and, secondly, that he’s using clean water. The plus side is that it’s a sure quick cleanse neither needing the patience of naturopathy nor risking possible chemical infiltration by medical cleansers.

Organic Baby Products - Skin Care

August 30, 2008

It has been said that there is nothing quite so soft as a baby’s skin. New parents love to soothe and protect their baby’s sensitive skin by smoothing on creme, lotions and powders to stop the symptoms of diaper rash as well as other irritations. The use of organic baby products helps you, as a parent, be sure that you are not using products that contain harmful ingredients. Organic baby products contain only natural ingredients with no chemicals or irritants to affect the sensitive skin of your infant. These products offer gentle protection and soothing action with no dangerous chemicals included.

Chemical free production

Organic baby products are soft and comfortable on baby’s skin because the fiber is specially grown to be free from pesticides and chemical treatments. At present, it is hard to determine precisely what long term effects that such substances have on humans, birds and animals that come in contact with the chemicals. Using organic baby products means you never have to worry about the chemicals that were used because there were none. These garments, cremes and lotions are not going to irritate the baby’s skin or result in unwanted irritants being drawn into the baby’s lungs or mouth.

No Carcinogens

There is no way that a responsible parent will deliberately put products that contain carcinogens on the sensitive skin of their baby. It is unfortunately true, though, that sometimes these dangerous ingredients are hidden from the casual observer. Even a veteran label reader may not be fully aware of the long term effect some ingredients will have on the skin of the baby. However, by committing yourself to organic baby products only you avoid the issue of trying to determine what is lethal and what is merely dangerous. Organic baby products are always safe and healthy.

Skin protection

Using organic baby products on your baby’s delicate skin is important. You need skin care for the baby to protect against wetness and germs that are a part of the environment, no matter how carefully you clean and disinfect the surroundings of the baby. The key in organic baby products is that they clean and protect without the harshness and even dangerous effects of the traditional baby care products. Another positive result of the switch to organic baby products is to eliminate the use of some of the fragrances that are in many standard baby products. Most people do not realize that a substantial number of these fragrances will cause allergic reactions on baby’s skin.

Hypoallergenic products

Using organic baby products, particularly those that are hypoallergenic means you are reducing the number of harmful substances that come in contact with the delicate skin of the baby. The earlier that the baby is exposed to such substances, the more likely he or she is to develop allergic reactions to the substance. These potentially dangerous substances run the gamut from fragrances to detergents and wetting agents in the laundry products and bath products. It is far better to use organic baby products and avoid the difficulty of reading labels.

Clothing

Many products labeled as organic baby products are now on the market, particularly at boutiques and online retail sites which specialize in out of the ordinary baby and child clothing and gear. Typically, these products are made of cotton or wool, although upscale garments may be constructed with silk or other man made fibers. Clothing made of organically grown cotton fibers will be free of pesticides or other chemical sprays and generally will be either come in natural colors or will be designed to use natural dyes. For this reason, you don’t need to worry about the dye in the organic baby products setting off an irritation when placed next to the baby’s sensitive skin.

Toys

Many parents are purchasing organic baby products for the new arrival because they are simpler products and also because they are safer for the baby who wants to put everything in his mouth. There are no chemicals used in the production or manufacture of the toys when you select organic baby products, so there is no danger of the baby ingesting harmful chemicals. Irritants are non existent so they can’t be harming the delicate skin of the baby. Organic toys are attractive, durable and conducive to a healthy and happy baby.

Bedding

Baby bedding is another popular choice in organic baby products, now. The availability of numerous small internet businesses that provide niche products means that parents who want to purchase organic baby products can find them on the internet and get them no matter where their home is. Baby bedding can be made of pure cotton fiber without harmful chemical dyes. Silk bedding is not only a natural product, but is glamorous and beautiful as well. Choosing organic products is the best way to have good options to the standard or traditional baby products.

Imagination

Choosing organic baby products is more than just picking a category of products and purchasing the products. It is a commitment to provide only the safest and healthiest products for your baby.
